What's New at Ewing?  Calm boxes!
The Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Team used some of their resources to provide "calm boxes" for the teachers and staff throughout the school. A "calm box" is a collection of items for students that can be used for calming purposes, to help manage stress, anxiety and self-soothe throughout the school day, as needed. Each grade level has a box with fidgets, activities, weighted items, stickers, breathing techniques, sensory toys, stress balls, coloring books, sound machines, etc. to suit each certain grade level. Some teachers have designated a certain corner or space in their room for students to go when they are feeling stressed and overwhelmed. Other teachers identify students who would benefit from accessing the calm box and let them know this resource is available to help them, if and when needed during the school day. The SEL team is dedicated to helping all students at Ewing be successful, even through times when students might feel stressed and overwhelmed.
